Kinship is Resurgence
The piece features a buffalo, a magpie, and a starblanket design layered behind the, as the buffalo moves forward through the center of the design. This artwork reflects a shared cultural resurgence: the return of buffalo across the plains, the re-emergence of treaty-based relationships, and highlighting kinship relationality with all beings.
Our future is grounded in what has been evident through Indigenous worldviews and kinship since time immemorial. I imagine a future where the return of the buffalo is not symbolic but lived—where living agreements like the Buffalo Treaty shape not only environmental restoration but social and relational restoration.
The artwork imagines a future where the kinship of the buffalo and magpie are renewed and respected, and where reconciliation is not performative but embodied in daily practice.
