JADYN WILLIAMS
As Long As the River Flows
The piece is titled "As Long As the River Flows" and features a Fancy dancer, reflected along the Elbow River and Bow river confluence. With the sun shining in the background and the grass growing in the foreground, this piece is a reminder that we are on land that we do not "own", but is our responsibility to take care of, respect and appreciate. Additionally it is to represent the original intent of the signed treaties which were to uphold the agreements as long as the sun shines, the grass grows and the river flows. Having a female dancer symbolizes that we as Indigenous peoples, our culture and ways of being are also here as long as the sun shines, the grass grows and the river flows.
